Unmanned Aerial vehicle (UAV) World Records

The first returnable and reusable UAVs were developed in the mid-30s and 40s, but it is recently that the technology has developed dramatically. Modern UAVs are now used for a variety of missions and claim impressive performance capabilities. FAI recognised the importance of these developments and published in January 2001 a dedicated section of the Sporting code to govern UAV World Records. The first-ever official UAV record flights were set by the RQ-4A 'Global Hawk' in March and April 2001 (still pending ratification as of today).
